Palamuru Grill Fined Rs10,000 For Overcharging Customer

Hyderabad: The city consumer forum has imposed a fine of Rs10,000 on Palamuru Grill restaurant in Madhapur for overcharging on a water bottle and soft drink.

Based on the complaint lodged by a customer Vijay Gopal, the forum not only imposed fine but also asked to pay Rs1000 for the complaint cost. According to the complainant Gopal, the MRP of the soft drink was Rs18 but he was charged Rs29 for it. Similarly, he was charged Rs29 for a Rs20 bottle of water.

On hearing the arguments of both complainant and the restaurant, the forum insisted the hotel to pay compensation of Rs10,000.

"No retail dealer or other person including manufacturer, packer, importer and wholesale dealer shall make any sale of any commodity in packaged form at a price exceeding the retail sale price thereof," the forum stated.

Earlier, Vijay Gopal filed a case against INOX for charging Rs50 for a water bottle and on Ohri's restaurant for levying service tax.
