Will Chiru as PCC Chief help Kiran Kumar's cause?
It is widely being speculated that the Congress President Sonia Gandhi has given her nod to the acceptance of Dharmana Prasada Rao's resignation.
Analysts say that this will lead to the resignation of other ministers who have received notices from the Supreme Court, including P. Sabita Reddy (Home), J. Geeta Reddy (Industries), K. Lakshminarayana (Agriculture) and Ponnala Lakshmaiah (IT and Infrastructure).
The congress is battling on several fronts to salvage its fortunes in Andhra Pradesh and nothing seems to be helping in turning the tide in its favour.
Meanwhile, the ground rapidly being gained by the YSRCP as seen in the recent elections in June is the most serious threat to the survival of the party in the state.
this is being seen as an attempt by the chief minister to assert himself and establish his authority. Over the past few weeks he had found himself in an increasingly difficult situation and has been cornered more than once by his cabinet colleagues, many of whom rallied around Dharmana Prasad Rao.
Analysts were doubtful about the support that the embattled chief minister would get, but it now appears that after a lot of dithering, the high command has decided to back him. To lend strength and support to the CM the high command is believed to have finalized the name of actor turned politician Chiranjeevi for the post of PCC president. Though the mega star failed to convert his charisma into electoral gains the congress it appears wants to repose confidence in him. This is also being seen as a move to counter the growing influence of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy who presents the gravest threat to the very survival of the Congress party in AP.
