Vijayamma writes open letter to Chandrababu on BCs
Actions not words demonstrate the YSRCP's commitment to the backward classes, said the YSRCP President, YS Vijayamma, in a letter to the TDP supremo, Chandrababu Naidu. She was responding to Chandrababu Naidu's announcement on assigning 100 assembly tickets to candidates belonging to the backward classes. Vijayamma said that "we should have a hundred BC members in the Assembly, instead of talking of giving tickets."
She added that barring constituencies where SCs, STs and minorities had a dominant presence, BCs should be given tickets in constituencies where they had a large population. Vijayamma added that her proposal could be construed as YS Jaganmohan Reddy's commitment and expressed the view that the Congress and other political parties would agree to this idea if the TDP committed itself to it.
Vijayamma pointed out that when Jagan came up with this proposal for local bodies, Chandrababu remained silent on the subject and chose not to respond. Further, in the 2009 elections Babu said he would give 100 assembly tickets and instead gave 47--less than half the number he promised. In contrast, the late Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy gave 67 tickets to BC candidates she said.
