Union Minister Kavuri, now a changed man?
It appears Kavuri Sambasiva Rao, Union Minister for Fertilizers, who was a hardcore supporter of united Andhra Pradesh, softened his stand on statehood for Telangana.
Kavuri was the first Congress leader from Coastal districts to oppose the proposed bifurcation of the state. He even went to the extent of resigning to his post as an MP when P Chidamabaram, the then Union Home Minister had made a statement on December 9 in 2010.
Talking to media persons on Saturday, Kavuri said he would abide by the decision of the party high command ¬¬on Telangana issue. “Everybody has the liberty to express his opinion. I am a Union Minister for entire country not for the State. Though my personal opinion may be different, but the decision of the high command is ultimate,” Kavuri said.
Meanwhile, Minister Pithani Satyanarayana vouched Kavuri’s comments and said it was misquoted in the media. He, however, said he and Kavuri were both for united AP. “I am not feeling that Kavuri had taken a ‘U’ turn on Telangana. But we abide by the decision of the party high command,” Pithani added.
