Truth about Krishna-Godavari linkage!

Truth about Krishna-Godavari linkage! - Sakshi Post

* Is this the first river-link in AP history?

What is the truth about the much-touted Krishna-Godavari river linkage? Is the result of the 'tireless'efforts on the part of Chandrababu Naidu? Or is he trying to appropriate the good work done by late chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy?
The engineers involved in the Polavaram works are expressing suprise over Chandrababu's grandiose claims. They remind that the project works were launched by late YSR and he has also completed laying of both the Left and Right main canals of the project. What Chandrababu has done is to set up water lifting motors at Pattiseema and transfer Godavari water through right canal, they said.
Interestingly, while YSR was busy developing the Right Canal, the TDP has strongly objected to the canal digging without completing the Polavaram Head Works. The TDP, which came to power in 2014, has used the very same canal that it had objected to transfer water. Ironically, the incomplete works on the Right Main Canal have not been taken up by the TDP government. The lining of the canal has also not been completed. Neither the aqueducts wee completed, not the vent work was finished.
What the TDP regime has done is to simply appropriate the works done during the YSR's time and claim it as its grandiose achievement. Interestingly, irrigation experts point out that river-linking is not something that Chandrababu has invented. The first river-linking in Telugu land was the Tungabhadra-Penna linkage through KC Canal way back in 1863. The canal was later taken over from the Dutch by the Britishers. Similarly, the Tungabhadra-Penna-Chitravathi river linkage was completed in 1953 and Krishna and Penna rivers were linked through Telugu Ganga and Galeru Nagari Sujala Sravanthi.
