Huzurnagar Bypoll Results: TRS Wins With Thumping Majority Over Congress

Hyderabad: The ruling TRS party in Telangana won the Huzurnagar Assembly constituency bypoll with thumping majority of over 43,624 votes over its rival Congress and establishing the pink flag in the otherwise Congress stronghold, on Thursday.

TRS candidate Sanampudi Saidi Reddy in a record majority won against nearest rival Padmavathi Reddy of the opposition Congress party with the results declared in the afternoon.

The counting of votes began at 8 a.m and Saidi Reddy of TRS established an early lead of 2,476 votes in the first round itself over his nearest rival Padmavathi Reddy of opposition Congress party and continued to maintain the lead through out the counting session.

TRS Saidi Reddy polled 89,457 votes .

While the Congress Party fielded Uttam Kumar Reddy's wife Padmavathi Reddy won 55, 227 votes .

The BJP’s candidate Rama Rao polled a dismal 1779 votes and the TDP’s candidate Kiranmai could barely manage 1440 votes , putting an end to the TDP’s attempt to revive themselves in the Telangana region.

The constituency, with over 2.36 lakh voters, had recorded 84.75 per cent polling in the bye-election held on October 21. A total of 28 candidates were in the fray in the bypoll, necessitated by the resignation of state Congress chief Uttam Kumar Reddy following his election to Lok Sabha from Nalgonda constituency in the recent polls.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) also fielded their candidates in the first bye-election since TRS retained power in December 2018.
