Postpone Local Body Elections: BJP

BJP state President Dr K Laxman - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad: BJP has approached the Central Election Commission to postpone the local body elections, scheduled next month. In this regard, BJP state President Dr K Laxman wrote a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner. In the letter, he said that with the Parliamentary elections being held throughout the country, conducting the MPTC and ZPTC elections in the state is not ideal.

Urging the Election Commission to hold these elections after the parliamentary elections, he further sought clarification on TRS government's claim that the Central Election Commission has allowed permission for the conduct of local body polls in the state.

The Telangana BJP President said since the party will go to elections with the party symbols, they will have to go for campaigns, however, at present, they are campaigning in different parts of the country for the Lok Sabha elections, which needs to be taken into consideration.

At the village level, he said that the emotion levels are high with a risk involving clashes and that paramilitary forces should be deployed for this further raising the question as to how they could be deployed when they are occupied with the parliamentary elections.

Speaking further, K Laxman said that the MPTC and ZPTC elections are going to be held in an indirect manner. Since it is contradicting the spirit of the Constitution, he said that the election should be conducted in a direct manner. Considering all these aspects, the BJP President asked the state government to administer the elections after the results of the parliamentary elections.
