Techie Commits Suicide Owing To Dowry Harassment
Bengaluru: A techie based in the city committed suicide owing to dowry harassment after sending a message to her sister in the US to take care of her kid.
The incident took place in Kempegowda Road near Ramamurthy Nagar, on Saturday night. The deceased has been identified as Rashmi (28). Her husband, Satish, also works for a software firm and the couple are natives of Kolar district. They were married for three years and have a one-year-old son.
Late on Saturday night, Rashmi sent a message that it was her final day and urged her sister to take care of her son. On receiving the message, the sister is said to have alerted her mother, Bhagyamma, a resident of Bengaluru. When, Bhagyamma, rushed to Rashmi's house, she found the house bolted from inside. Her attempts to alert Satish failed as he was out of town. She contacted the local police, who rushed to the house and managed to break open the door. However, she was found hanging and initial reports stated that she had died before the doors were broke open.
According to a complaint lodged with the police, Rashmi was subjected to mental and physical torture by Satish for additional dowry. Unable to tolerate the harassment, she quit her job about two weeks ago. Early on Saturday, she left her son at her mother Bhagyamma's residence. Based on the complaint, police arrested Satish and his mother Gayathri. Further investigation is underway.
