Supreme Court issues stay in Tsundur case - Sakshi Post

Supreme Court has issued a stay on the trial in the sensational Tsundur Dalit massacre case in the High Court. The apex court served notices on Wednesday to the accused in the case.

Some upper caste persons killed eight Dalits on August 6, 1991 in the village.

On April 22 this year, the High Court had acquitted 20 persons, who are facing life imprisonment, and other 36 persons from the case. Dissatisfied with the judgment of the High Court, state government and relatives of the victim moved the Supreme Court. After its trial, the Supreme Court also served notices to the accused along with a stay on the trial of the High Court.

On August 1, 2007, the special judge gave his judgment in the case. He acquitted 123 persons out of 179 accused in the case saying that the case is not a rare case to award death sentence to them. He awarded  life imprisonment to 21 persons, one year imprisonment for 35 persons and also a penalty.

The victim families moved High Court. Those who were awarded the imprisonment filed a petition in the court requesting the court to acquit them from the case.
