SOLOGAMY: Woman Marries Herself As She Failed To Find A Soulmate 

Marriages have been redefined of late as we have come across lesbian and gay weddings. However, a 40-year-old woman from Italy went ahead by defying this norm and wedded herself. Laura Mesi, a fitness trainer, is the first woman in Italy who got married to herself.

Laura spent Rs7.5 lakh on her wedding and said "I do" to herself. It was an elaborate wedding wherein she was draped in a white gown, three-layer wedding cake, bridesmaids and 70 guests for the ceremony. Though the ceremony doesn’t carry legal weight but Laura considers herself to be a part of contemporary trend of “sologamy".

Laura got the idea to marry herself two year ago after her 12-year-long relationship ended. "I told friends and family that if I had not found my soul-mate by my 40th birthday I would marry myself. If one day I find a man with whom I can plan a future I'll be happy, but my happiness does not depend on him," she says.

She further iterates that, "that all of us can have a fairytale even without a prince and we must first love ourselves."
