New Delhi: In a decision that could have far reaching consequences, the Congress party disssolved its Karnataka State party unit in wake of reports that several key leaders are scheming to switch to BJP to overthrow the JD(S)-Congress alliance government at the behest of BJP. However, the party high command decided to retain Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president and working president in their positions.

The KPCC has been grappling with severe infighting with leaders forming various factions and openly hurling abuses against each others. This is having a direct bearing on the running the coalition government in the State.

The party high command's decision for calling dissolution of KPCC comes close on the heels of suspension of senior Congress MLA Roshan Baig. Despite being in the government, Congress fared poorly in the State in the recent Lok Sabha elections. Baig attributed Congress' poor showing to former chief minister Siddaramaiah and Dinesh Gundu Rao. In fact, he went further and said that the party lost because of the "foolishness" of Gundu Rao. Several Congress MLAs are believed to be unhappy with the conduct of Siddaramaiah and Gundu Rao.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy expressed his disappointment openly over running the coalition government and said all he was doing was that he was trying to resolve the fissures between both parties. In light of such a situation, the Congress Party has decided to dissolve the state unit.
