Mudragada Unhappy With Chandrababu’s Kapu Reservation Quota
Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government's decision to grant 5 percent reservation to Kapu community drew mixed reactions from various quarters. On Saturday, the AP legislative assembly passed the AP Kapu Reservation Bill that enables Kapus to avail 5 percent reservations in educational institutions and jobs in the government sector.
The reservation to Kapus was TDP's key election promises in 2014 before it came to power. The state government had also constituted a Commission headed by retired Justice Manjunatha to study reservations to Kapu community.
Based on the recommendations of the Commission, Telaga, Balija and Ontari communities under Kapus will be classified under 'F' category for jobs. However, the government did not provide place for political reservation in the bill. Meanwhile, Mudragada Padmanabham appears to be unhappy as he was demanding 10 percent reservation for Kapus.
The Chandrababu Naidu government is drawing flak from various corners for breaching the Supreme Court's direction of 50 percent limit on minority quotas.
