11 Hours After He Fell Into Borewell, 2-Year-Old Emerges Smiling
Guntur: After 11 hours of rescue operations, the two-year-old boy who fell into a 100-feet abandoned borewell hole at Pattambanda Ummadivaram village in Vinukonda mandal in the district on Tuesday evening was pulled out alive and safe.
At around 4.30pm on Tuesday, the boy Chandrasekhar accidentally fell into the borewell which was dug and abandoned by his family long back. Parents and villagers alerted the officials immediately and rescue operations were initiated to pull the boy out. He was responding to the parents when they called him out and his cries were audible as he got stuck at a depth of around 15 feet in the 100-foot borewell.
The rescue teams could successfully pull the boy out after 11 hours of digging despite some obstructions during the operation. A hard rock obstructed the digging for a while and rain disrupted the operation for a few hours. Finally, the teams could reach the boy at 2.30am on Wednesday and he was shifted to hospital. He recovered completely and is healthy, doctors said.
“I am unable to speak,” kid’s father Mallikarjun was too happy and the entire village heaved a sigh of relief after seeing the boy alive and safe.
Earlier, fire, police and NDRF staff jointly made all efforts to rescue the boy. They were made a parallel hole below the spot where the boy got stuck to support him from beneath. Parents and the entire village were praying for the safety of the boy and anxiously waiting at the accident site.
Officials are confident that the boy will be rescued safely as he is stuck only at a 15-foot depth. The operations were going on. More details to follow.
It may be recalled that a girl fell into a similar borewell recently in Ranga Reddy district in Telangana and she died before she could be pulled out after three days of rescue operations. The TS government ordered the closure all abandoned borewells following the incident.
