China Tries To Intrude Into Ladakh Region, Indian Army Pushes Back
Even as the Doklam stand-off in the India-Bhutan-China trijunction is continuing, China on Tuesday, made a bid to enter Indian territory near the Pangong Lake in Ladakh. Chinese soliders even pelted stones at the Indian jawans causing minor injuries. Indian soldiers foiled the bid.
The Chinese made thrusts in the Finger Four and Finger Five areas between 6 am and 9 am on Tuessday. Personnel from both sides received minor injuries and the situation was brought under control after the customary banner drill under which both sides hold banners before stepping back to their respective positions.
What Is Pangong Lake:
- Pangong lake is five km wide and 134 km long. Sixty per cent of the lake is under China's control, while the remaining is with India.
- There is no life in the lake. Hence it is called endorheic lake. Durign winter the lake completely freezes.
- Pangong means High Grassland Lake.
- The area saw war during 1962. There is a fort on the banks of the lake. It is called Khurnak Fort and is in Chinese control.
- Pangong Tso can be reached in a five-hour drive from Leh, most of it on a rough and dramatic mountain road. One needs an Inner Line Permit to go to this lake.
- Films like Dil Se, 3 Idiots, Jab Tak Hai Jan, Tashan, a song in Telugu film Aagadu were shot on the banks of Pangong Lake.
