Hyderabad: The University of Hyderabad (UoH) has once again been ranked among India’s best educational institutions for the year 2019 as per India Rankings, a government of India-backed survey, using parameters ranging from research facilities, academic excellence to placements of graduates. The India rankings 2019 were done under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) that considered close to 5000 institutes across 20 parameters.

The Hon’ble President of India, Ram Nath Kovind declared the rankings and gave away the rank certificates to the top institutions at a glittering function organised at the Vigyan on Monday. According to the rankings released by the Ministry of Human Resource Development the UoH is ranked fourth among all Universities and 11 among all the Institutions in the country. In 2018, UoH was ranked 5 among Universities and 11 among all Institutions where as in 2017 it was ranked 7 among Universities and 14 among all Institutions.

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) outlines a methodology to rank institutions across the country. The methodology draws from the overall recommendations broad understanding arrived at by a Core Committee set up by MHRD, to identify the broad parameters for ranking various universities and institutions. The parameters broadly cover “Teaching, Learning and Resources,” “Research and Professional Practices,” “Graduation Outcomes,” “Outreach and Inclusivity,” and “Perception”.

Prof. Appa Rao Podile, Vice Chancellor, UoH while crediting this honour to the stakeholders of the University said, “We are delighted to have improved upon our ranking this year and be among the top 4 universities in the country. The university has improved its rank in this category (we were 7 in 2017, 5 in 2018 and now 4), but we have to work harder. UoH will increase its efforts to ensure that it is recognised as a top institution not only in India, but also internationally for its quality of teaching and research. We are happy that our faculty, students, officers, and non-teaching staff, along with our alumni have played a vital role in the growth of the University. Our aim is to enhance the quality of education and research to produce the best students who will be model citizens of our country and in the process contribute to the world’s knowledge economy as well,” he added. Prof Podile also stated that "The University of Hyderabad sees the improvement in ranking as an endorsement of its commitment to the public education system and to its students, but also as a reminder that there is more to be done. We reaffirm our commitment to national needs and to global standards".

Prof. Appa Rao had a couple of years ago constituted a committee to carefully analyse the areas where university has to improve to acquire a better position in both national and international rankings. Incidentally in the QS World Rankings 2019, UoH has also improved its rank to 591-600 as compared to 601-650 in 2018.
