Hits and misses in Team KCR
Frail yet determined KCR scripted history on Monday morning when he took oath of office and secracy as the first chief minister of nascent Telangana state, the latest yet addition to the states in the country.
Amid state-wide celebrations that began hours before the mid-night of Sunday, KCR was sworn in at an impressive function in Raj Bhavan. Along with him 11 cabinet ministers too were sworn in. The ministers sworn in were T Rajaiah, Mohammed Mahmood Ali, Harish Rao, Etela Rajender, Nayani Narsimha Reddy, Padma Rao, KTR, Jagadeeshwar Reddy, Jogu Ramanna and Mahender Reddy.
Team KCR was a mix of young and old, experienced and the inexperiened.
The new team of ministers comprised one each from the SCs and the minorities, three from the BCs and six from the OCs. Of the OCs, four are from the Reddy community, three from Velama community. Prominent communities like Goud and weavers remained unrepresented as of now.
Of the 10 Telangana districts, Khammam and Mahabubnagar remained unrepresented. Four ministers are from Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts, keeping in view the fact that GHMC would soon go to elections.
Significantly, the TRS ministry is male-dominated, with no representation whatsoever for women. Another interesting feature is that of the 12 ministers sworn in on Monday, three belong to KCR family.
Quite inexplicably, several prominent leaders like Jupalle Krishna Rao, party-hopper Konda Surekha, party's Dalit face Koppula Eswar were not accommodated.
Another key factor is denial of ministerial berths to any of the employees leaders, who were the vanguard of the T movement. Srinivas Goud and Swami Goud could not get accommodation.
Ahead of the swearing-in, the city was painted pink with TRS banners, buntings, billboards and flags hoisted everywhere.
