Dirty Utensils, Severe Hygiene Violations Found at Famous Hotel in Hyderabad

During an inspection by a task force team from the Telangana Food Commissioner, Subbayya Gari Hotel, located in Kondapur, Hyderabad, was found to have clogged drains, unclean food handlers, and grease dripping from the exhaust.
In a post on X, the Telangana Food Commissioner highlighted the unhygienic kitchen conditions, including improper storage of vegetables, leading to produce drying out. Concerns were also raised over broken floors, unclean walls, stoves, and utensils, as well as the poor state of the storage room.
Additionally, the food handlers were not wearing head caps or gloves, and the food inspectors noted the absence of water analysis reports, pest control records, and medical fitness certificates for food handlers, which are required by law from the Food Business Operator (FBO).
The task force also criticized the failure to monitor the formation of Total Polar Compounds (TPC) in used cooking oil. Samples of the oil were collected for lab analysis. Monitoring TPC levels is essential for maintaining food quality and ensuring consumer health, as high TPC levels can lead to harmful substances in food.
The inspectors also observed that the FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) license was not displayed on the premises.
It is understood that the task force has instructed the hotel management to address these violations immediately. Further action will be taken based on lab test results and compliance with food safety guidelines.
Task force team has conducted inspections in Gachibowli area on 20.03.2025.
