Farm loan waiver: Jagan's blistering attack makes TDP squirm

Hyderabad: YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy launched a blistering attack on the TDP government in Andhra Pradesh over its flip-flop on crop loan waiver. 

In a hard-hitting speech on the Day 4 of the AP legislative assembly, YS Jagan said the TDP and its chief Chandrababu Naidu had backtracked on the assurance of complete agricultural loan waiver given during the assembly elections. He also pointed out Chandrababu had also promised Dwcra loan waiver, but had gone back on the assurance.
 
Here are the highlights of YS Jagan's speech: 
* What were your assurances at the time of election and what is being done now. * The State Level Banker Committee had admitted that the farm loans to a tune of Rs 87612 crore were pending with the banks as on March 31. Similarly, the Dwcra loans were of the order of Rs 14,204 crore.* The total outstanding loans is Rs 1.02 crore.* The SLBC has clearly said these farmers would not get further loans and that there would be no crop insurance for them. Over and above, the farmers will have to pay a penalty for non-paying of installment.* The same was reiterated in the 184th, 185th and 186th SLBC meets.* The loan target for for 2014-15 was set at Rs 56 019 crore. * The loan target in 2011-12 was Rs.31,877 crore, but the actual amount given was Rs 35,611 crore. In 2012-2013, the target was 35,654 crore, but the actual loans advanced were Rs 50,060 crore. In 2013-14, the target was Rs .47,017 crore, but the actual advances were Rs 49,774 crore.*  Jagan presented several case studies from various districts to show that the government assurances on crop loan waiver were mere publicity and that the farmers were not benefited much. * The Government should implement complete farm loan waiver as assured during the runup to the elections. * Chandrababu is telling white lies on crop loan waiver with eyes wide open. He is spreading false information without batting an eyelid.
 
The opposition, instead of answering the charges took to personal attacks on Jagan. Both Chandrababu Naidu and ministers Atchennaidu and Palle Raghunath Reddy made personal attacks on YS Jagan and sought to divert the debate. However, Jagan stood firm and did not allow the issue to be diverted.
