Dwaraka Shankaracharya says will build Ram temple

In a politically loaded statement aimed at taking on the ruling BJP, pro-Congress Shankaracharya of Badari and Dwaraka, Swami Swaroopananda slammed the BJP on the issue of Ramajanma Bhoomi.

He criticized Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s statement that the temple could be built only when the BJP enjoyed a complete majority in the Rajya Sabha. He said the politicians should stop speaking on Ayodhya Ram Mandir. He said the task of constructing a temple should be left to the seers and religious leaders.

He said the BJP was playing politics in the name of Babur and said he did not need the support of the politicians to build Ram temple.

He also criticized Modi’s gifting of Bhagavad Gita to the Japanese emperor. “I would have been happy if Modi made arrangements to teach Gita to the children and youth of the country,” he said.

Swaroopananda has been opposing the BJP-RSS-VHP and was used by PV Narasimha Rao regime to weaken the BJP-VHP led Ayodhya movement. He has not been part of the VHP=led Ayodhya movement.
