Bowing to popular anger, the Vijayawada police on Wednesday issued e-challans to some of the youths, who flouted traffic rules and took out a rally to mark the birthday of Bonda Raviteja, son of local TDP MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao.

Though the incident happened a couple of days ago, the police did not take any action against the MLA's son's supporters. The unruly youths even argued with the traffic police on Sunday evening during a rally.Those driving the vehicles were challaned under section 184 (driving dangerously) of the Motor Vehicle Act, a senior Traffic Police officer said on WednesdayE-challans have been issued against the youths, who were asked to pay the fine within a stipulated period of 15-days or face further action, the officer added. In the footage shown on TV channels, the youngsters were seen hanging onto the doors of two four-wheelers by standing on their foot-steps besides bursting crackers while other friends were following them riding their bikes. According to police sources, the two four-wheelers reportedly belonged to the MLA and his kin.
