Hyderabad: Drunk driving proved fatal for the friend of a drunk engineering student who rammed his four-wheeler into a parked Skoda at the Jubilee Hills stretch in the city on Sunday midnight.

According to the police, the accused identified as Sai Karthi, who is student of Sathyabhama University in Chennai, attended a sari ceremony along with his friends at Park Hyatt and left the hotel at midnight in his Ford EcoSport vehicle.

Around 12.15 midnight, Karthik took Jubilee Hills stretch from Banjara Hills. Since Karthik was in inebriated condition, he could not notice the parked Skoda vehicle on Jubilee Hills 45 and crashed his vehicle into it. Due to the impact, Karthik's car overturned leaving all the three of his friends in the car with serious injuries. They were rushed to a nearby hospital. His friend Jatin Varma succumbed to his injuries while the other three including Karthik escaped with minor injuries, the police said.

Following the mishap, Karthik was subjected to breath analyser test and it was found that blood alcohol count was 80mg/100ml. A case has been registered under relevant sections for causing death and negligent driving. Karthik was taken into custody.
