'Amaravati' : Andhra's new capital - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad: Amaravati will be the name of the new capital city of Andhra Pradesh, CM N. Chandrababu Naidu officially announced on Wednesday.

In a press meet on Wednesday, CM told reporters that it was unanimously decided to name the new capital 'Amaravati'.The press meet followed cabinet meet, in which the name was finalized and approved by the team.
The new capital was proposed and is being built in Vijayawada-Guntur region and Amaravati, the ancient and town with its own historical importance is part of the choosen region.
CM Babu who was lately proving to be a strong believer in 'Vasthu' and 'Muhurtham' said the new capital would have the strength of both the 'vastu' and auspicious name.

Amaravathi historically was known Dhanya Kataka and was the capital of during the Satavahana era. However, Raja Vasireddy Venkatadri Naidu has named it Amaravathi.The new capital would be located 20 km from the historic Amaravathi town, the seat of one of the five Arama Shiva temples and the seat of Budhist Kalachakra festivities.Amaravati was home to the Satavahana dynasty 2,000 years ago. It is famous for Buddhist sites including a stupa built during Emperor Ashoka's time.
