Loan Waiver: YSRCP stages walkout

Loan Waiver: YSRCP stages walkout - Sakshi Post

Legislators of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), the main opposition party in Andhra Pradesh assembly, staged a walkout protesting against the TDP government's move to impose a cap on farm loan waiver.

YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said that State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) meeting has found that there was Rs 87,000 crores of agricultural loans and Rs 14,000 crores DWCRA loans in the State.

Pointing out that while nearly Rs 1 lakh crore worth of loans have to be waived, the TDP Government had only allocated Rs 5,000 crores in the present budget,  the YSRCP chief slammed the TDP for its failure to keep its promise of waiving of crop loans in the state.

"Beliving your promises, farmers are paying loan interest of 24 thousand for last year and this year. Who will pay that interest?."

YS Jagan demanded that the TDP government announce a time frame for the loan waiver.
Waiver of all farm loans was the most important poll promise made by Chandrababu during the recent elections. The promise was mentioned in both the Telangana and Andhra manifestos of the TDP and it was repeated ad nauseum at all public meetings during the election campaign. It had helped the TDP to come to power in AP.
