YS Jagan’s Project Bata begins today
*Tour to expose the fault and fallacy of Pattiseema LIS
YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy would undertake a tour of twin Godavari districts to inspect the works on various irrigation projects on Wednesday. This is part of the three-day ‘Project Bata’ being undertaken by YS Jagan to expose the TDP Government’s step-motherly treatment of the all-important irrigation sector.
He would reach Mathurapudi airport by 10 AM on Wednesday. He would immediately proceed to Dowlaiswaram barrage, where he would garland the statues of Sir Arthur Cotton, who constructed the barrage to benefit the countless farmers of Konaseema, and late YS Rajasekhara Reddy, whose Jalayagnam brought cheers to the harried farming sector.
Later, he would reach Polavaram project and inspect the works there. From Polavaram, he would reach Pattiseema project’s proposed site. He would also interact with the farmers from Pattiseema region to gather their opinion about the project and understand why they are opposing the project. Party’s MPs, MLAs and other senior leaders would accompany YS Jagan during this tour.
Pattiseema project, proposed by the Telugu Desam project runs counter to the stated objectives of the multi-purpose Polavaram project. Sans any storage facility, the Pattiseema project seeks to transfer water to Krishna River through lift irrigation system. The water can thus be lifted only during the flood time, which corresponds with the flood season of Krishna river. Without the necessary repairs to the Pothireddypadu head regulator, this water cannot reach the parched Rayalaseema region, which is the stated objective of the Pattiseema project.
YS Jagan’s tour of the Pattiseema and Polavaram seeks to expose the faulty nature of Pattiseema project and the fallacy of water diversion to Rayalaseema.
