Woman Rescues 3 Drowning Persons With Her Saree

Nizamabad: A mid-day meals employee saved three persons including a student from drowning in the swollen Kakatiya Canal of the Pochampadu project. The woman threw one end of her saree for them to catch and helped the boys to reach the canal bank safely.

The incident occurred in Pochampadu village of Balkonda mandal in Nizamabad district on Monday.

Even as several onlookers watched helplessly, Chayabai, a mid-day meals worker, did not think of her own safety and threw one end of her saree into the water to enable the three persons to catch it. Then she pulled them towards the canal bank.

Due to the heavy rains, the Kakatiya Canal received huge inflows and was swollen. Sonu of Pochampadu village slipped and fell into the canal. Seeing him drowining, Kunal, a Class X student, tried to save him and in the process fell into the river. Devadas, who jumped into the canal to save them, too was swept off by the swirling waters.
