What is happening in Jharkhand?
Here are the updates on Jharkhand assembly election results
* BJP has emerged a clear winner in Jharkhand. It is leading in half the seats and appears set to end political uncertainty in the troubled Jharkand.
* The state hadn't seen a clear winner since its formation in 2000. It always had coalition governments which lived on the edge. This would be for the first time that the state will see a government with absolute majority.
* Jharkhand is the only state formed by the BJP in 2000, which never had a strong government. Uttarakhand and Chattisgarh always had governments that had absolute majority.
* BJP, which contested 72 seats, has a pre-poll alliance with the AJSU party which contested eight seats and Ram Vilas Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party, in one seat.
* Opposition parties put up a divided fight with the alliance among JMM-Congress breaking before the polls and they decided to contest separately. JMM contested on 79 seats, Congress contested in 62 seats, RJD in 22 and JDU in 11. JVM (P) contested alone.
* But, the BJP is shocked as former chief minister and BJP candidate Arjun Munda is trailing by about 1,200 votes from his nearest JMM rival Dasrath Gagrai in Kharswan (ST) seat after the first round.
* Counting of votes for the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly began in 24 centres across the state on Tuesday amid tight security. There are 1,312 counting tables, besides 83 tables for assistant returning officers, an Election Commission release said here. The process began at 7 AM and the actual counting started an hour later.
* Deogarh constituency in Jharkhand would have the maximum rounds of 31 and Chakradharpur has the minimum with 10 rounds.
* A record 66.47 per cent polling had been registered in the five-phase polling.
