Vijayamma condemns lathicharge on students in Delhi

YSR Congress Party honourary president, YS Vijayamma has strongly condemned police lathicharge on students who are protesting against the gangrape incident in New Delhi.

Vijayamma, in a statement issued on Saturday came down heavily on the police' atrocities on innocent students who were peacefully protesting for a good cause.

Vijayamma said, "The great Mahatma Gandhi once said our Nation will have achieved true independence and freedom the day a woman can walk freely on the roads at midnight." The YSRCP leader wondered if women can feel safe even during day time.

Expressing her concern at the plight of the gangrape victim, Vijayamma lamented that the very fact that the incident happened in the capital city only goes to show the pathetic state of affairs in the country.

It was inhuman on the part of police to resort to lathicharge on the protestors, instead of teaching the culprits a lesson, she added.
