Hyderabad: Tollywood Comedian Gundu Hanumantha Rao Passed away here in the wee hours of Monday. He was 61.

Rao, who was suffering from heart and kidney ailments breathed his last at 3 am today at his house in Erragadda. Despite the financial aid of Mega star Chiranjeevi and the Telangana chief minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao, Hanumantha Rao couldn't meet his medical expenses.

Hanumantha Rao was born in Vijayawada on October 10, 1956. He made his first appearance on stage with a play Ravana Brahma and later entered the film industry with the Jandhyala movie Aha Na Pellanta in 1987.

The actor was mainly seen with actor Rajendra Prasad in the films Rajendrudu Gajendrudu, Kobbari Bondam, Mayalodu and Apparao Driving School. His movies like Yama Leela with Ali, Pekata Papa Rao, Akkum Bakkum brought the actor in to limelight.

Hanumantha Rao was last seen in Sri Sai Sankalpam. He was also seen in many TV serials Anando Brahma, Adhi Thalam, Aalu Ballu and the show Amrutam earned huge fame to the actor. Rao has acted in over 400 movies and had bagged three Nandi awards.

The news of Veteran Telugu Comedian Gundu Hanumantha Rao Death has left a huge vacuum in the Telugu film industry. As soon as news broke that Gundu Hanumantha Roa was dead, Telugu celebrities thronged his place to pay their last tributes.

Hanumantha Rao’s wife and daughter also passed away long ago. His last rites are likely to place at Erragadda burial ground. Many film personalities have expressed deep condolences over the death of Hanumantha Rao.
