Bengaluru: Would you believe if I said that the professional Jobsite LinkedIn India now a prostitution hotspot?

In the age of high-end technology, fraudsters are using dubious tricks and strategies to make their business thrive. Take for instance LinkedIn India, which is said to be one shop stop for job seekers. Now, we hear the same most trusted professional jobsite LinkedIn is now a prostitution hotspot.

A report in Times of India has brought the stark reality into the fore. The report shows how the prostitution business is surging in cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, New Delhi and Kolkata. Though LinkedIn in its US agreement has long back informed people not to create profiles of escort services, and also banned the in 2013, it continues to reign on this platform.

The ToI report showed a LinkedIn profile of a spa in Bengaluru which enlists the services of massage at various places in the city describing them as “independent adult entertainer”.

“The 47 million Indian members on LinkedIn, and the 546 million around the world, are members because they want to build their careers and become better professionals. Our user agreement clearly states that profiles or content that promote escort or prostitution services are prohibited. When we become aware of profiles and other activity on the site that may be in violation of our policies, we take appropriate action. We also encourage members to report any behaviour they consider to be inappropriate,” ToI quoted LinkedIn India communications head Deepa Sapatnekar as saying.

“We have robust measures in place that protect our members: They are empowered to block members who offend or threaten them. They can also report offensive conduct and the profile of that member can be suspended if found to have contravened our terms of service (and where necessary), remove them from the site altogether,” he added.

The police has asserted that they will take suo moto action against such profiles and is investigating the matter.
