Pyongyang: An earthquake measuring 2.5 on the Richter scale on Saturday rocked North Korea's Kilju county, close to the site where Pyongyang recently conducted a nuclear test.

The tremor occurred at 7.45 a.m., with an epicentre 2.7 km away from the Punggye-ri Nuclear Test Site located in North Hamgyong province, reports Efe news. The Seoul-based Korea Meteorological Administration said the quake was natural in origin, however, since the latest North Korean nuclear test on September 3, several tremors measuring up to 3.0 on the Richter scale have shaken the area.

Since 2006, North Korea has carried out six nuclear tests at the site, with the last three taking place in 2016 and 2017.
