3 prisoners attempt suicide in Machilipatnam jail

Three remand prisoners allegedly attempted suicide in the sub-jail at Machilipatnam in Krishna district.

According to the reports, the prisoners complained of poor quality food in the jail, but the Prison Department authorities had reportedly failed to respond to their plea. Instead, the authorities beat up the prisoners black and blue.

Angered by this, the two prisoners attempted suicide by consuming broken pieces of fluorescent bulb. The condition of the three prisoners is said to be critical and are being treated in a hospital in Vijayawada.
