Three children drown in pond

Srikakulam: Three children, including two sisters, drowned in a pond near Kanugulavanipeta village in the district on Tuesday, police said.

The incident occurred after six children ventured into water for swimming, they said.

As per preliminary information, they failed to gauge depth of the water body and started drowning. While three of them were saved by villagers, the rest, identified as Kanugula Sangeeta (6) and Kanugula Lavanya (8)-both sisters--and Ponumoti Manikanta (8), drowned. Bodies of the trio are being fished out, police said.
