TRS Govt Needs Additional Rs 10,000 cr To Meet Expenditure For Flagship Schemes
HYDERABAD: The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti government is facing problems due to insufficient funds and may need an additional Rs 10,000 crore to tide over the fiscal expenditure that the government is having to incur due to its flagship schemes.
With a huge increase in beneficiaries for Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's flagship schemes - Kalyana Lakshmi/Shaadi Mubarak and Rythu Bandhu schemes, this has become a big challenge to the ruling TRS party. According to the reports, the allotted Rs 1.36 lakh crore will not be sufficient to serve the beneficiaries.
The TRS government provided Rs 1,400 crore for Kalyana Lakshmi scheme and Rs 6,000 crore for Rythu Bandhu scheme.
When Kalyana Lakshmi welfare scheme was introduced by the state government in 2016 for providing financial assistance for marriages, it cost around Rs 180 crore for 2016- 2017.
In 2019-2020, it reached around Rs 1,400 crore, but till now the government has distributed Rs 600 crore and still 50,000 applications are pending for distribution and this will at least require Rs 1,700 crore more.
On the other hand, Rythu Bandhu initiative to support farmer’s investment for two crops a year has also become a burden for the government as beneficiaries are increasing yearly. In 2018-2019, it cost around Rs 500 crore and the government still need Rs 1,300 crore for this year funds distribution to the beneficiaries.
