AP Cabinet Meeting: MSP To Corn/Maize Farmers
TADEPALLI: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has taken a key decision to provide Minimum Support Price (MSP) to corn/maize farmers in the State. The State Cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy at the Secretariat on Wednesday, November 13, approved several crucial decisions and MSP to corn/maize crop was one of them. He also instructed officials to open the purchase centres through the agriculture marketing department and provide MSP to the farmers with effect from today afternoon.
Speaking at the meeting, Minister of Agriculture Kurasala Kannababu has said that a quintal of corn was priced at Rs 2,200 a week ago. There was a sudden fall in the price to Rs 1,500 within a week. He stated that due to the fluctuating prices, farmers were at loss as they couldn't get the minimum price (MSP) for theirs crop.
In response to this situation the Chief minister ordered officials to take action and start purchasing the crops from the farmers by opening the purchase centres and provide MSP to farmers immediately.
He also ordered the officials to make purchases from the farmers through Agricultural Marketing Department. The Cabinet also approved of the decision to inaugurate purchase centres in Vizianagaram and Kurnool districts today.
The steps required for price stabilisation and providing MSP to corn/maize farmers was taken by the Government in sync with the YSR Congress Party President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's promise made during the campaign before the 2019 assembly elections.
