Moral Policing: St Francis College Asks Students To Wear Knee-length Kurtis Or Go Home
Hyderabad: In yet another case of moral policing, students of St Francis College in Hyderabad have been asked to wear knee-length kurtis to college or go back home. One of the reasons included that this will help the girls to find good marriage proposals.
A leading web portal who accessed the circular that was issued on mid-July asked all the students of the all-women Arts and Science college in Begumpet, Hyderabad to wear kurtis longer than knee-length beginning August 1.
The students got the circular in their college WhatsApp groups.
Speaking on the issue, a woman from the college told the daily that around 30 students were sent back home on August 1. Some were sent back for wearing kurtis that were less than an inch above the knee.
Students say that talks with management have not yielded any results as the management tells that college is a sacred place and 'not a place for body show'.
Students also say that although crop-tops and skirts are banned in the campus, the institute have always heckled the girls students for their choice of dressing.
Meanwhile, college management told the leading daily that the 'dress code' is implemented to help the students focus on their education.
