Telangana Extends Summer Holidays For Schools Over Heatwave
Hyderabad: Owing to the scorching heat wave conditions in Telangana, the state government has issued an order extending the summer vacation for schools by two weeks. As per the order, the government postponed the reopening of schools in Telangana by two weeks and will now reopen on June 12, instead of June 1st.
Education Secretary Janardhan Reddy issued the order Commissioner of School Education on May 24 seeking necessary action to implement the order. The order states, "The attention of the Commissioner of School Education, Telangana, Hyderabad is invited to the references cited and is informed that the Government has decided to reopen the schools on 12.6.2019, in view of the prevailing heat wave condition instead of from 01.6.2019."
High temperatures were recorded across the state this week particularly Hyderabad and Nizamabad witnessing temperatures over 40 degrees Celsius.
Nizamabad and Ramagundam sizzled at 44.4 degrees and 44.2 degrees respectively while Khammam boiled at 44 degrees Celsius Bhadrachalam at 43.8 degrees. Hyderabad experienced a maximum temperature of 42.7 degrees.
A heat wave alert was issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on May 20 mentioning that the heat wave conditions are likely to continue for the next few days. The authorities have given out several warnings asking the public to refrain from being exposed directly to the sunlight and protect themselves, especially in the afternoons.
