Despite Showers, Heat Wave Conditions To Continue In Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Strong winds accompanied by an intense spell of rain lashed Hyderabad in the evening hours of Tuesday. The sudden downpour came in after the city witnessed one of the hottest days this year, providing the much-needed respite from the heat.

However, the unexpected rain brought in a lot of struggle for the public as well with the roads left waterlogged, trees uprooted, power outages and traffic jams.

The officials of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday said that Bolarum in Alwal received a rainfall of 39.5 mm followed by Malkaram area near Kapra which received 26.8 mm rainfall, Medchal at 23 mm, Quthbullapur received 11.3 mm and Jeedimetla at 7.5 mm. Asifabad recorded the highest rainfall in Telangana at 42.5 mm.

With several complaints of uprooted trees and water stagnation at multiple localities, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) swung into action with the disaster response teams also pressed into service to ensure that the problems were solved at the earliest.



As per the IMD, Hyderabad witnessed a maximum temperature of 42 degree Celsius on Tuesday in the morning hours with parts of Adilabad recording a maximum temperature of 45.4 degree Celsius. Nizamabad recorded 45.1 degrees followed by Ramagundam at 44 degree Celsius and Medak at 43.2 degrees.

Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and lightning are expected to occur over isolated places across the state particularly in Jagtial, Mancherial, Suryapet, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Karimnagar, Hyderabad, Wanaparthy and Nalgonda districts.

Despite this, the heatwave conditions are likely to prevail across the State till May 25, according to the IMD forecast. The temperatures will continue to soar during the day time with thunderstorms in the evenings. The officials have advised people to refrain from exposing themselves directly to sunlight.
