Hyderabad: A row over the reconstruction of a place of worship in Amberpet resulted in clashes between two groups on Sunday evening leaving eight persons including four policemen severely injured.

The structure was pulled down by GHMC authorities in Amberpet last Wednesday to facilitate road-widening. On Sunday, a few people including AIMIM Yakatpura Legislator Ahmed Pasha Quadri tried to rebuild the place of worship. But the situation escalated when BJP workers led by MLA Raja Singh staged a sit-in near the site. After raising slogans against each other, both the groups hurled stones. To bring the situation under control, the police resorted to lathicharge and dispersed the mob.

Following the clash, additional police forces were deployed to ensure security. Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar also rushed to the spot and stated that they will contact the Revenue Department to check the ownership of the land.

According to the GHMC officials, the property demolished was a structure on private land, for which they paid Rs 2.2 crore and acquired the land.
