If Congress Targets MIM, It Will Lose Muslim Votes
Hyderabad: Congress leaders are working hard to win in the upcoming polls. They boast Congress is responsible for the bifurcation of the state. It is their leader Sonia Gandhi who has made the dream of Telangana a reality. Winning the capital city Hyderabad is going to give a much-needed edge is what the Congress thinks. This time around to the political discomfiture of the Congress, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen(AIMIM) a powerful force in city politics, has allied with K Chandra Shekar Rao led Telangana Rhastra Samithi.
AIMIM is an ally of TRS in the upcoming election, and is therefore, an eyesore to the the Congress. With this the Congress is employing another ploy of not attacking the AIMIM directly but by targeting its decision to support the TRS.
The Congress is scared of slamming the AIMIM directly, because the strategy could backfire, making them lose the support of a section of Muslims. This led to a shift in the party election strategy. In the public meetings outside Hyderabad, Congress leaders have said “if you support the TRS it is like supporting the BJP indirectly.” AIMIM is an ally of the TRS so this implies they are also supporting BJP. AIMIM they point out, has not fielded its candidates anywhere else apart from Hyderabad .
Taking forward the Congress strategy, TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy asked, “Asaduddin Owaisi should reveal what he got by selling out to KCR.” Replying to the question, Owaisi tweeted, “Education for 50,000 Muslim girls and boys in residential schools. 800 minority students, who have received overseas scholarships. No communal riots in Telangana. Peace, safety and security for the weak. Your presumption that you can buy us with money is an insult to every Hyderabadi.” In his poll speeches, Owaisi is appreciating TRS government for its work done to the community and the city, while making harsh comments on the Congress and the BJP.
