K Kavitha’s First Reaction After Losing In Nizamabad
Nizamabad: Former Nizamabad MP and TRS leader K Kavitha who faced a defeat on her home turf in Nizamabad to BJP candidate D Aravind spoke to the media for the first-time after the results on Monday.
Congratulating the winner, she appealed to Aravind to fulfill the promises he had made to the voters in the run up to the elections. She urged TRS leaders and workers not to be dejected by the loss and said winning and losing were part of politics.
A visibly crestfallen Kavitha said she accepted the verdict of voters and urged her supporters to be dignified in the defeat. She reminded them Telangana movement where its votaries had faced numerous obstacles before achieving the statehood.
“Whether or not we have any posts, we will continue to work for the development of people of Telangana. We will make every effort to realise the dream of Golden Telangana. Accordingly, I will be available to every worker and the citizen of the constituency,” she said.
In the run up to the elections, Nizamabad had been in the full glare media as over 100 turmeric farmers filed nominations as independents. Disappointed with the established parties reneging on their promises, farmers felt it was necessary for them to contest as independents to teach the high-profile politicians a lesson.
As they expected, their nominations did play a spoilsport resulting in the crushing defeat of sitting MP Kavitha. The 100-odd farmers polled about a lakh votes. Kavitha lost to BJP’s D Aravind with a margin of 70,000 votes. The defeat gave a rude jolt to TRS leadership, considering that it had been a bastion of none other than Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s daughter.
