Congress Resurgent In Uppal, Tough Contest In Quthbullapur
The Quthbullapur assembly constituency in the undivided Ranga Reddy district was represented by TRS's K P Vivekananda in the recently dissolved House. Although the TRS stood second in the 2009 and 2014 elections in the constituency, the party managed to gain a fairly reasonable amount of trust among the locals after sitting MLA K P Vivekananda jumped ship from the TDP. Vivekananda defeated former MLA Koona Srisailam Goud by close to 40,000 votes out of the 516,180 total voters in 2014.
In the inaugural assembly election after the constituency's inception in 2009, Vivekananda was trumped by the Congress's Srisailam Goud by 23,219 votes. This time around, Kasani Veeresh of the BJP also hopes for a win in the December 7 polls. It would be a tough contest between the Congress and the TRS, experts say.
The Uppal assembly constituency in the undivided Ranga Reddy district will witness a three-faced contest between the TDP, TRS and the BJP. With former TDP minister Devender Goud's son Veerender Goud in contention from the TDP this time around, it becomes a triangular fight for the TRS's Bethi Subash Reddy and BJP's sitting MLA NVSS Prabhakar. The constituency has 441,145 voters.
In 2014, NVSS Prabhakar sailed through with a win over Bethi Subash Reddy by 14,169 votes. However, the BJP candidate is mired in a troubled situation in the constituency, thanks to the lack of development and allegations of inattention to public issues at large. While the TRS leadership is hopeful of Subash Reddy's win, TDP's Veerender Goud enjoys popularity across the constituency. As per popular opinion in the air, the TDP will emerge victorious.
