TRS On Its Way Out: Congress
Hyderabad: Former Union Minister and Congress leader Jitin Prasad Saturday alleged that the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) government in Telangana has failed on all parameters in the last five years and said the Congress party would form the next government in the state.
Addressing a press conference here, he said the TRS chief and caretaker Chief Minister of the state K Chandrasekhar Rao was running a dictatorial regime.
It has become clear that the people would throw the TRS government out as it belongs to one family and it was ruling the state as if it were a private limited company, the Congress leader said.
Whatever the state government had promised for youth, the downtrodden and the minorities, has not been delivered, besides there were no jobs and farmers were in distress, Prasad said.
The people were looking forward to Congress rule after the upcoming elections and it would deliver what the party has promised, he said.
Prices of petroleum products have soared to an all-time high since Independence as the Central government has been levying excise duty and filling up its coffers while the Telangana government was charging the highest VAT on diesel, Prasad said.
"Crude was USD 140 per barrel during our time (UPA regime) and today it is USD 80 per barrel, despite which the prices were lower than what they were today," he said.
"The state government has earned huge money on VAT and we seek answers as to where that amount has gone," Prasad said.
When voted to power, he said, the Congress government would take efforts to slash petrol and diesel price by reducing VAT and thus reduce the burden on the common man.
Prasad accused the BJP government at the centre and the TRS government in the state of neglecting MGNREGA and said several sugar mills have been shut down under the TRS government.
Hefurther said the 'Ujjwala Yojna', a flagship welfare scheme of the NDA government, aimed at increasing LPG cylinder coverage among poor families, has been an utter failure
Reacting to a query, Prasad said the credibility of CBI as an institution has been eroded by the Narendra Modi government.
Senior Congress leader Madhu Yashki Goud alleged that caretaker Minister K T Rama Raos assets have increased by over 423 per cent as compared to 2014 and claimed that a scam involving a healthcare firm contributed to the amassing of wealth. (PTI)
