Telangana Makes Telugu Compulsory For All Schools From Next Year
Hyderabad: Telugu will be a compulsory subject from Class 1 to XII in both public and private schools beginning next academic year. K Srihari, the Telangana deputy chief minister, who also holds education portfolio held a meeting on Tuesday with the education department and sub-committee which was appointed to recommend measures to implement Telugu as a compulsory subject.
The sub-committee told Srihari that nearly 1,370 schools in the state didn’t teach Telugu as the first subject. The committee also added that the matter was taken up with CBSE and ICSE schools who readily obliged to implement next academic year. Srihari asked the officials to prepare an interesting syllabus. The committee officials further added that states Like Punjab, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu have implemented the policy successfully.
The meeting was attended by Special Chief Secretary Ranjeev R. Acharya, Director of School Education G. Kishan, sub-committee members – Vice-Chancellor of Telugu University Satyanarayana, Secretary of Board of Intermediate Education A. Ashok and Officer on Special Duty Deshapathi Srinivas, Chairman of the Official Language Commission Devulapalli Prabhakar Rao, Director of State Council of Educational Research and Training Seshu Kumari.
