Hyderabad's strict enforcement of drunk and driving regulations has led to a significant rise in the number of cases filed this year. Since the beginning of 2024, the city police have registered a staggering 53,234 drunk driving cases.

A closer look at the figures reveals that the majority of these offenses involve two-wheelers, with 45,394 cases recorded. Four-wheelers account for 5,364 cases, while three-wheelers contribute to 2,407 cases. These numbers underscore the alarming prevalence of drunk driving in the city.

The crackdown has also generated a substantial amount of revenue for the city, with Hyderabad's infamous "Mandu Babulu" (Alcoholics) being fined a total of Rs 10.69 crore so far. This fine amount highlights the scale of the issue and the significant financial penalties associated with driving under the influence.

Under current laws, offenders face fines of up to Rs 10,000 and may be sentenced to up to one year in jail, depending on their blood alcohol levels and the severity of the offense. Despite these harsh penalties, the number of cases continues to rise, revealing a disturbing trend of reckless and uncaring behavior on Hyderabad's roads.

The Hyderabad police remain committed to curbing this dangerous habit by conducting regular DUI drives across the city.
