Telangana Govt to Formulate Sports Policy

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhara Rao on Monday announced that the State government would make an exclusive sports policy to develop many sports persons like Sindhu. The sports policy would be formulated with an objective of developing world-class sports persons from the scratch, said KCR.

Shuttler PV Sindhu, who won silver medal at Rio Olympics, along with her coach Gopichand called on the Chief Minister KCR at the camp officer here. KCR has handed over a cheque of Rs five crore to Sindhu and Rs1-cr cheque to Gopichand, after felicitated both of them.

KCR has suggested Gopichand to set up coaching centers in Telangana districts also. KCR further said: “Not only Hyderabad, but talent is everywhere in Telangana districts. We have to identify the right talent and train youngsters properly to make them world-class players,” said KCR.

KCR also appreciated Sindhu’s parents PV Ramana and Vijaya for not only encouraging their daughter, but also devoted their precious time on building her sports career. The Chief Minister has also presented Rs 25-lakh cheque to badminton player Srikanth for his peformance at Rio Olympics and another cheque of Rs25 lakh to Sindhu’s physiotherapist Srikanth.

Earlier, Governor Narasimhan has felicitated PV Sindhu and Gopichand at Rajbhavan. Governor Narasimhan had arranged grand ceremony to honour PV Sindhu and her coach. Governor and first lady Vimala Narasimhan asked Sindhu to cut the cake as a mark of celebrations.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor praised PV Sindhu and her coach Gopichand. “Though I am not an avid television watcher, but watched the last three matches of PV Sindhu, who’s a role model for youngsters in the country. Not for the medal, but Sindhu played for the country. The four powers-- mother, father, guru and the Almighty-- helped her take the country to greater heights. You have become a role model for future generations.”

Governor has handed over mementos to Sindhu and Gopichand. While thanking the Governor, Gopichand said they came to meet the Governor as a formality, but His Excellency surprised us by felicitating us.”
