Telangana government to buy power from Chhattisgarh - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad,  In a bid to overcome power shortage, the Telangana government on Friday decided to buy power from Chhattisgarh on medium and long-term basis.

K Chandrasekhar Rao, chief minister of Telangana gave instructions to Managing Director Transco to buy 1,000 MW power from Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company and enter into power purchase agreement (PPA) for Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCL) lines, a Chief Minister office release said.

The Chief Minister also asked the company to obtain 1,500 MW of power through dedicated lines and float tenders to set up those lines.

In addition, the chief minister wants them to negotiate to have 2000 MW power on medium-term basis from Chhattisgarh to meet immediate needs for a five year period, the release said.

The chief minister said the neighbouring state has surplus power and in a position to spare to other states and it is the only state from where Telangana can obtain power, it added.
