Telangana Government Tightens Screws on Property Tax Defaulters

Hyderabad: The Telangana government is tightening screws on property tax defaulters with new measures to identify and penalise them.

The Commissioner also suggested use of GIS mapping to identify properties in municipal divisions that have not been included in the tax net.

A new set of directions were issued in this regard by Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration M Dana Kishore on Thursday. He directed officials to disconnect water connection and issue warrants to the property tax defaulters. Civic officials should collect the list of new users from state DISCOM and cross check with the list to identify the property tax defaulters, he said. The Commissioner also suggested use of GIS mapping to identify properties in municipal divisions that have not been included in the tax net.

Dana Kishore also announced a discount of five percent to property owners who pay the tax before the due date, besides announcing reward for bill collectors who achieve higher collections in property tax.
