Mumbai: In a spine-chilling incident, a US-returned techie found decayed body of his 63-year-old mother at Oshiwara apartment in Lokhandwala locality, Andheri (West) here in the city.

According to the police, son Rituraj Sahani was not in touch with his mother for over an year now. Rituraj, who settled in America as a software professional, had last spoken to his mother in April 2016. Since then, Rituraj had lost contact with his mother.

On Sunday, he returned from America unannounced and directly drove to Lokhandwala complex assuming that his mother might be still residing in the same flat. He rang up the door-bell several times, but the door was locked from inside. When he opened the door with the help of a keymaker, he found his mother Alka Sahani lying down in a decayed condition with well-adorned clothes. The incident shocked the neighbours and the residents in Lokhandwala complex.

After the death of her husband Kedernath, the 63-year-old woman had been staying alone in her flat apartment. It is learnt that she had informed her son Rituraj several times that she was feeling depressed and wanted to move to an old-age home. The neighbours also said that they did not smell any stench following the death.

The police ruled out any sign of robbery and registered a case under an accidental death. The body was shifted to hospital for postmortem where the cause and date of the death would be determined.
