TDP, Congress workers clash, one dead in Srikakulam - Sakshi Post

Tension gripped Samanthapuram in Srikakulam district as activists of the Telugu Desam Party and Congress clashed on Monday.

In the incident, one died, and 15 people belonging to both TDP and the Congress were injured.

According to reports, trouble started when a woman went to get drinking water, on the way she was stopped TDP activists. Later, Congress activists, in a bid to take revenge, stopped a woman from TDP cadres from getting water. 

Congress and Telugu Desam workers then resorted to hitting each other, throwing the situation out of control. 

During the clash, P Ramanaiah (50) belonging to TDP died, and several others were seriously injured. 

Ramanaiah was badly injured, and he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment in the hospital.
Similar clash occurred in the same village in 2000 as well. 

Police made elaborate arrangements to keep similar untoward incidents in check. Several higher police officials reached the village and picket has been placed.   They also booked a case of murder and rioting under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
