Six held in jewellery robbery case

Hyderabad: City police said they have cracked a case of robbery where over three kg gold jewellery were robbed from Humayunnagar of Mehdipatnam area here, with the arrest of six persons.

Police have recovered the entire jewellery weighing 3.843 kg from the accused. The incident had occurred on the night of May 30 when B Sharief, Khaja Fasiuddin (who earlier worked in jewellery shops), Atif Ali Baig, private employee, Syed Arshad, a cook, Md Iqbal and Goru (both students) had hit the victim Narasimha Reddy near a jewellery shop with an iron rod before fleeing with the gold ornaments, Hyderabad Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy told reporters here.

The CCTV footage provided clues to the crime that helped us in cracking the case in record time, he said. While working at a jewellery shop, Sharief had noticed that several wholesalers dealing with gold ornaments send their marketing executives whenever they receive calls from reputed jewellery shops, Reddy said. About two months back, Sharief had hatched the plan with the other accused to execute the robbery and in the last fortnight, the gang had made a recce of the jewellery shop in Mehdipatnam several times, according to police.

They got information that Narsimha Reddy, a marketing executive of a jewellery shop was carrying gold. They intercepted his bike, sprinkled chilly powder in his eyes and beat him with an iron rod before fleeing with the gold ornaments, the Commissioner said.
